Blog Stage 2: It's a Theme!

In class, I did a presentation on the proposed sticker price would be to repair and restore the Governor’s mansion that was set ablaze last June.

That sticker price was an estimated $27 million ($2 million raised in private funds). Needless to say, the Senate Finance Committee shot down the budget, stating in no uncertain terms, that $25 million was far too much for a house, even if it is the Governor’s.

Well, Chairman Steve Ogden, of the Senate Finance Committee, may have found a workaround, according to an article by Mike Ward, Austin American Statesman.

Sen. Ogden told John Sneed, the State Preservation Board's interim executive director, to see if they could use the $16 billion stimulus money promised – well, shoved down Gov. Perry’s throat – by President Barack Obama to Texas.

Sen. Ogden did say, however, that "In my opinion, it's unlikely we would appropriate that [$25m] much" for the restoration project.
